i was so inspired this particular weekend in september with all of the beautiful gatherings to express art, activism and living life with a passion and doing what you are called for.

the we rise (women empowered through revolutionary ideas supporting enterprise)  international women's artists conference was a watershed event for divadelight

because i do focus on women and dance music it was such an excellent opportunity to experience strong sistas doing they thang.  katherine jorgensen held it down as one of the organizers running to and fro. dancer and educator, shalewa mackall presented a fierce workshop on dance and movement with a group of young excited ladies working it out to some deep house jams, one of the ways to introduce house music and culture to the youngins in various ways.

likewise, i hit up a women and dj panel with dj reborn, jeannie hopper, ashu rai, and karla calderon.  sistas was breaking it down regarding being a woman, a dj, a mother, a business woman...all the multi-tasking and the reality that you have to do to do in order to succeed in a culture and a space (nyc) oversaturated with djs (and the cutesy dj chicks who just wanna be seen playing with machines.).  then i rolled to a workshop on electronic music making workshop lead by indie rawk punk electro girl, jen urban and the women and music business workshop was presented by none other than joi cardwell, one of my fave house divas.

great job done by the women of w.e. r.i.s.e!  for more information, please visit thier website at www.werise.org
