together in spirit second year anniversary

left together in spirit with the remnants of hot funk and baby
powder on my skin. I stumbled into
the train back to brooklyn happy to pass the early morning hour ride
revisiting the celebration on the dancefloor just minutes ago. In an attempt to disrupt the habit of eventually checking parties out
when informed they will be no more or for some big bash, I mentally scold
myself for not attending the party until the second anniversary. The reality of soulful house parties in the city is quickly diminishing
so the need to savor what is left is even more pronounced.
subway riders on their way to work on this
monday morning wonder why I look about with a dazed, stupid smile. if they
only knew. if they could only imagine the
blackbrownyellowivory bodies enjoying one another in sunday school dance.
if they could see me running up and down the
stairs enjoying the sounds of the other dj resident glenn thorton of the
backlit coolness of the basement full of food and beats then up to the
warm glow of the heated main dancefloor. if
they could wallow in the melodic shower of songs delicately laced with
thank yous musically presented to the crowd by dj resident wil milton
along side the vocal affirmations of brother conrad nesbit at the height
of the dancefloor moment. if they only
knew what it means to be together in spirit. |
